This calligraphy comes with the original sign and seals.
The original meaning of writing words is “Riding an auspicious white horse and strolling in the pleasant spring breeze.”
It depicts a situation where things are going smoothly without any disturbance, and one is enjoying life.
It was written by highest famous priest Kobori Takugan.
He lived from 1931-2017.
He born in Aichi Prefecture in 1931. He trained at Bairinji Temple in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture and Daitokuji Monastery.
In 1966, he became the 18th abbot of Kohoan, a sub-temple of Daitokuji. (Murasakino)
He served as the general manager of the Rinzai sect Daitokuji school and as an advisor to Daitokuji. He was the 525th head of Daitokuji.
To become a Saijyu Daitoku, one must be over 70 years old and receive recommendations from more than five people and be accepted in the order of eligibility of Sakino Daitoku. However, a Saijyu Daitoku is only chosen when a major event is scheduled for the entire temple. When one is chosen as a Saijyu Daitoku, one’s name remains in the lineage of the special chief abbots of Daitokuji.
It is pretty rare to get the scroll by the abbot of the Daitokuji sub-temples.
We call the Daitokuji sub-temples “Murasakino”.
It is very special for tea people.
And also, Kobori Takugan was very good at calligraphy.
There are many Murasakino Daitokuji collectors in Japan especially Tea and Zen lovers.
