Shino ware is a type of Mino ware produced in the southeastern part of Gifu Prefecture. This type of pottery ware was usually decorated with underglaze iron painting and covered with white feldspathic glaze. It was made by Kato Ryo. He born In Seto, Aichi in 1914. His artist’s name is Jyunpu.
Ancestors of the Kato Clan produced sometsuke pottery for generations as Sagoshichi kiln. His father Juntaro started to Shino in 1907 as Kifudo Junpu. Kato Ryo got many prizes for Shino works at pottery exhibitions.
This tea bowl is unused with original paulownia box, original paper box, original cloth and original guide paper.
The piece features a calm dark gray surface characteristic of
Nezumi-Shino, enhanced with iron glaze that creates a rich and expressive texture.
The bowl has a solid weight in the hand, giving it a stable and substantial presence.
