This lacquer Natsume tea caddy is made by Nakatani Hakuho.
He born on 6 January 1948.
He is a Yamanaka lacquerware maki-e artist who specializes in tea utensils such as Natsume Tea Caddies and Incense Containers.

In 1973, he exhibited at the Yamanaka Lacquerware New Work Exhibition.
In 1975, he exhibited at the Yamanaka Lacquerware New Work Exhibition and won the Director’s Award at the Yamanaka Wooden Lacquerware Association Exhibition.
In 1980, he exhibited at the Yamanaka Lacquerware New Work Exhibition and won the President’s Award at the Yamanaka Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry Exhibition.
In 1981, he exhibited at the Kaga Art Exhibition.
In 1982, he exhibited at the National Lacquerware Exhibition.
In 1984, he exhibited at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
In 1988, he won an Honorable Mention Award at the Nippon Art Exhibition.
In 1994, he won the Ishikawa Prefecture Governor’s Award at the Yamanaka Lacquerware New Work Exhibition.

It is unused in excellent vintage condition consistent with age with original paulownia box.
It belonged to our relative.
She had never used his Natsume and just kept it for long time.
We do not see any sign of using.
It is traditional art and craft. Please do not look for perfect finishing like machine made.
It is beautiful Natsume tea caddy with wonderful Makie even on the back of a lid.
