Kato Shunei is the progeny of Kato Shiro Saemon Kagemasa (1168-1249) who is the very famous potter.
Born in a pottery family and his family is the kiln of Sennyue-ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
After graduating from the molding course of the Kyoto Prefectural Potters’ Training School in 1951, he joined the family business.
He opened a kiln in Ogurayama, Sagano, Kyoto in 1974.
He built a pottery studio in Arashiyama, Kyoto in 1979.
Held solo exhibitions at the Dobashi Gallery in Kyoto from 1977 to 1983.
The flat tea bowl is made for Kenninji Temple, Sub-temple Reito-in (Zen temple, Rinzai School) in Kyoto.
It is in excellent vintage condition with original paulownia box, original cloth and original guide paper (Unused).
It is very beautiful, delicate and refined Zen style.
It is rare item and suitable for Zen people.
We got it from our friend in Kyoto.
