Oribe ware produced in Toki City and vicinity, Gifu prefecture. The origin of Oribe ware dates back to the end of the Momoyama period.
Oribe ware derives its name from the tea master Furuta Oribe (1544-1615) under whose guidance it was produced.
The characteristics of Oribe ware includes black glazed pieces known as Kuro Oribe (Black Oribe). – Quote from A Dictionary of Japanese Art Terms
Motohiko Tanaka (1954-) born in Toki, Gifu.
He studied ceramic engineering in Tajimi Technical School.
He became a pupil under his father Genya Tanaka (1924-) and Yasoji Sasaki (1926-) in 1973.
He also studied pottery under Ichino Shozo of Tamba pottery artist in 1976.
His family kiln, Kikusen gama has a history of over 100 years.
This tea bowl is unused with original paulownia box, original paper box, original cloth and original guide paper.
It is beautiful black oribe with unique Kutsuwa shape.
He is very good at Oribe and Shino.
You are also able to use this Matcha Tea Bowl for Tea Ceremony.
