This calligraphy comes with the original sign and seals, original paulownia box and original paper box.
The original meaning of writing word (Tsuruwa Yobu Sennenno Kotobuki) is
Cranes bring happiness and prosperities for 1000 years.
Because it is said that cranes live 1000 years old and turtles live 10,000 years old in Japan.
It was written by highest famous zen master priest Fujii Kaido.
Fujii Kaido (1898 ? 1984) is No. 515 chief priest of Daitokuji Temple.
He was working together with Goto Zuigan (1879-1965) Roshi and Oda Sessou (1901-1966) Roshi to reconstruct Daitokuji after World War II.
They also made effort to reconstruct Kyo ware in Murasakino Area.
Because he was well versed in Tea Practice and Calligraphy and Pottery.
He was No. 22 chief priest of Hoshun-in temple and Sangen-in temple.
Both temples are sub-temples at Daitokuji temple.
Calligraphy by Zen priests are much difference from professional calligraphers.
It is the way of self-expression in Zen.
However, he was a very skilled calligrapher and tea people at same time, too.
