Overall condition is in excellent to very good vintage condition consistent with age. (Unused or Very Less Used)
This calligraphy and painting come with the original sign and seal, original paulownia box and original paper box.

Hasegawa Kanshu was the chief priest of at Murasakino, the Sangen-in subtemple of Daitoku-ji Temple.
He was very good at Zen calligraphy.
He retired in 1997.
He was the father of the current chief priest, Hasegawa Daishin of at Murasakino, the Sangen-in subtemple of Daitoku-ji Temple.

Takazono Hakuson is the Japanese painter.
He used to paint Japanese painting especially for Zen priests.

Kokei Souchin (1532-1597), he used Shaozhou Congshen (778-897)’s poem to praise Senno Rikyu (1522-1591).
Kokei Souchin was the highest Zen priest of Daitokuji temple.
He was a Zen master of Senno Rikyu.
Shaozhou Congshen was the Zen Buddihist master in China.

Hasegawa Kanshu and Takazono Hakuson made the scroll for a tearoom.
Hasegawa Kanshu picked up the above-mentioned poem and Takazono Hakuson painted Senno Rikyu.

Calligraphy by Zen priests are much difference from professional calligraphers.
It is the way of self-expression in Zen.
However, he is a very skilled calligrapher at same time.
