This calligraphy comes with the original sign and seals and original paulownia box.
The writing words “Tsuki wo mite Seisho ni fusu (観月臥青松)” come from 孤雲無定處 本自愛高峰 不知人里日 観月臥青松.
The original meaning of writing words is “Looking at the moon. Lying on a blue pine tree”.
The meaning of Zen Words re “An isolated cloud in the sky has no fixed home. Because clouds naturally love high peaks. I wish to live lying on a blue pine tree while looking at the moon, without having any relation to secular life.”
It is expressed zen monk’s feeling.
It was written by highest famous zen master priest Ajiro Chitou.
Ajiro Chitou (1922-2014) was born in Fukushima Prefecture in 1922. After graduating from Taisho University, he served as a administrator at Muroji Temple in 1948.
He became a secretory of Hasedera Temple Priest School in 1949.
He was appointed as the head priest of Rengeji Temple in 1960.
After working for the Ministry of Education’s administration bureau, he became a lecturer at Kanazawa University in 1962.
He became a general affairs manager of National Museum of Nature and Science in 1964.
He was appointed as the deputy head priest of Muroji Temple in 1987.
He served as the head priest of Muroji Temple and the head of the Muroji Temple school from 1989 to 2013.
He passed away on January 15, 2014 due to old age.
He was also very good at calligraphy with graceful and powerful.
And also, he picked up very meaningful Zen words.
There are many his collectors in Japan.
Muroji Temple is the head temple of the Murouji school of Shingon Buddhism
The temple is very famous, because Mt. Koya (the center of Shingon Buddhism) prohibited women until 1905.
Murouji Temple is celebrated as one of places of worship for women.
They allowed women to visit, so it was called ‘Nyonin Koya’ (Koya for women).
