The Chashaku Tea Scoop made of Ichii (Japanese Yew) by Sakugoro.
He used Ichii Itto Bori technique.
Ichii Itto Bori is a woodwork technique made in the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture.
This technique is carved out of Gifu Prefecture’s prefectural Japanese Yew Trees using only a chisel and bring out the beauty of the wood grain without any coloring.
The origin of the name Japanese yew (Ichii) is from the history in the past.
The highest rank scepters in the 12th rank, their crowns were made from Japanese yew trees.
So the tree name was taken from the first rank name “Ichii”.
There are two theories: the other is that the name “Ichihi” came from the meaning of the scarletest color because the Japanese yew tree was much more scarlet (red) than other trees.
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age. (Unused)
