“KOGO” incense care (container) is a vessel with a cover, for holding incense. Used at “TEMAE” ceremony and placed as an ornament on the floor of “TOKONOMA” in the “CHASHITSU”. Unlike the “KORO” it is not used for burning incense but is exclusively for smelling the fragrance from it. There are many various of “KOGO”. During the Edo period there were so many numerous varieties the “KOGO” “BANZUKE” (ranking lists) were compiled. – Quote from A Dictionary of Japanese Art Terms
We found this “KOGO” in our warehouse belong to my grandmother.
This Kogo is beautiful shape, elegant and “Miyabi”.
It is made by one of famous Kyo ware’s artist, Toho Tezuka with original paulownia box and original cloth.
It is not a mass production model and rare shape.
You are able to use this Kogo for full-fledged tea ceremony.
