Aomori Nebuta Festival

Aomori Nebuta Festival is held every summer in Aomori and it is one of the three major festivals in the Tohoku region.
During the festival, dancers called “Haneto” energetically hop along to the chant “Rassera, Rassera” while parading through the streets with giant and lavishly decorated Nebuta lantern floats.
Each year, the Nebuta lantern floats are created from scratch, and the designs are different every year.
This is also one of the reasons for the festival’s popularity.
Consequently, the festival organizers must start preparing for the next year’s festival as soon as the current one ends.
Many people, including Nebuta artists and assistants, companies, schools, labor unions, and city hall, support the Aomori Nebuta Festival throughout the year to hold the festival successfully.
