Wari-Kodai Tea Bowl

A Wari-Kodai tea bowl is a type of Korean tea bowl characterized by a foot that is divided into a cross shape. The foot is the circular-shaped base at the bottom of bowls and pots. Wari-Kodai is typically found in thick tea bowls, where the inner side of the foot is not shaved but instead has cross-shaped grooves or one or several notches, as shown in the attached photo. These tea bowls are thick, robust, and have a strong presence with the flat and elevated foot, making them very popular among men.

The photo below shows a late work by the renowned Hagi ware artist, Shigehiro Eitetsu (1930-2016).
