The basic shape of a Tenmoku Tea Bowl is a mortar-shaped bowl with a small, a low ring platform (Wakodai), and a constricted rim. It is very characterized by the shape.
Yuteki Tenmoku is a pattern of ferric oxide crystals separated during firing.
Those appear as spots on the inside and outside of the bowl.
It was named Yuteki Tenmoku because it resembles drops of oil are floating on the surface of water.
Yamauchi Shun is very famous talented modern artist in Kyoto.
【Brief Biography】
1984 Born in Kyoto, raised in Miyagi
2006 Graduated from Kyoto Traditional Crafts College, majoring in ceramics.
Studied under Yuichi Inukai
2008 Selected for “Japanese Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition” (2009-2012, 2014-2016, 2018, 2020)
2009 Started his own kiln, KOHAKU-GAMA in Kyoto
2012 Invited to “Kyoto Prefecture Art and Crafts for Tomorrow 2012 Kyoto Arts and Crafts Biennale”
Received the Akita Prefecture Governor’s Award at the “Kahoku Crafts Exhibition” (Selected in 2014)
2016 Selected for “Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition”
Currently A member of the Kyoto artist team “Utsuwa Danshi”
Associate member of Japan Kogei Association
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age with original paulownia box, original cloth and original guide paper. (Unused)
Our relative purchased the tea bowl at his solo exhibition in Sendai in 2011.
He became one of very famous talented modern artist. He produces more stylish and sharp potteries nowadays.
It is definitely rate item as tenmoku style.
