The lacquer Natsume tea caddy is made by 2nd Suzuki Konyu.
Suzuki Konyu is a Kyoto-based lacquer artist working in the tradition of “Kyo-nuri”. The name Konyu is currently held by the second-generation master.
*The first-generation Konyu was born in 1923. From 1950, he trained for seventeen years at Zōhiko, a renowned Kyoto lacquer workshop founded in 1661, before establishing his independent practice in 1967.
*The second-generation Konyu, born in Kyoto in 1945, began his training under the first-generation Konyu in 1965. In 2000, he formally succeeded to the name as the second-generation master.
Employing traditional techniques such as “Togidashi Makie” (polished lacquer decoration), he creates refined tea ceremony utensils including tea caddies, incense containers, shelves, and hearth frames distinguished by their elegance and precision.
This work was created by the second-generation Suzuki Konyu.
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age with original paulownia box and original cloth. (Unused)
We do not see any sign of using it.
It is traditional art and craft. Please do not look for perfect finishing like machine made.
You are able to use this Tea Caddy for Tea Ceremonies.
