Takatori-yaki is a type of pottery ware produced around Nogata and Iizuka Cities in Fukuoka, Japan. The Takatori kilns ware patronized by the Kuroda family, a domain lord family governing Chikuzen province (present day Fukuoka prefecture). The early Takatori ware was similar to the Karatsu ware. However the Takatori kiln produced unique pottery in classical shapes, decorated with double iron glazes, which ware used mostly as tea utensils. – Quote from A Dictionary of Japanese Art Terms
Setsuzan Onimaru (1912-1996) is very famous Takatoriyaki pottery and born as the second son to the head of Koishiwara kiln in 1912. He studied pottery under the famous Hakata Doll artist Yoichi Okiayu.
He started his own kiln in 1965. He got several prizes like Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and became METI-designated traditional crafts person in 1979.
He passed away in 1996.
It is very good vintage condition consistent with age. It comes with original paulownia box and original guide paper. (Very less used)
His kensui is not commonly seen.
When you ask your tea masters, they are sure to know him.
And also, when the see it, they will know it is definitely his artwork.
