Those questions always trouble me. It is one of frequency questions and the question is most difficult to answer.
When you have very expensive and very old Chaire like national treasures, the answer is definitely NO. And also, when you bought brand new one or used excellent condition one, the answer is also NO. However please make sure wipe the inside after using it. Otherwise, the leftovers turn brown. When you use it next time, the new powders mix with the old ones. When you wipe it, do not use tissues or your fingers due to contain oils. Please use delicate clothes (silk), papers or feather blush. The reason why we do not wash Chaire, because Tuchimi part is unglazed.
However the undermentioned case is difficult to answer for me.
When you got a vintage with a lot of the leftovers and very dirty conditions, I hesitate to give you answer. Because I am unable to judge the condition. However, I can imagine you see very dirty clumped black colored tea powders inside. If I use the Chaire with the horrible condition, the tea become horrible, too. And also, it is not good for the health. Therefore, we do not offer such conditions’ one. And also, we and our associates treat Chaire very well.
Personally, if I were you, I would soak and wash gently by baking soda, then dry it completely. I took this way for my 1st very cheap and very poor condition’s Chaire. I am not responsible for any trouble that may occur, though….
