The Chashaku Tea Scoop was named “Chiyo no Tomo” by Togami Meido.
He is one of one of famous priests in Daitokuji Temple.
Born in Mie Prefecture in March 1935.
Graduated from Ryukoku University in 1957.
Completed Ritsumeikan University Graduate School in 1964.
Trained at the Daitokuji Training Zen Dojo.
Studied Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism under Sesso Oda Roshi.
Became the chief priest of Gyokuroji (Tamatakiji) in 1977.
Given Sakino Jyuui in February 1990. He was allowed to give a signature as Sakino Daitoku.
Retired in June 2006.
“Chiyo no Tomo” (also pronounced as “Chiyo no Dochi”) means a close friend with whom you promise to get along well even after a thousand years. It signifies a friend who will always be good to you. The tea ceremony is also like your “Chiyo no Tomo” for you.

Sojun Okuda is a famous bamboo craftsman. It is known that he was asked to shave off the bottom of the tea scoop by famous monks.
It is also known that he was often asked to do so by Maeda Shodo, Hashimoto Joshu, Togami Meido, and others.
