“KOGO” incense care (container) is a vessel with a cover, for holding incense. Used at “TEMAE” ceremony and placed as an ornament on the floor of “TOKONOMA” in the “CHASHITSU”. Unlike the “KORO” it is not used for burning incense but is exclusively for smelling the fragrance from it. There are many various of “KOGO”. During the Edo period there were so many numerous varieties the “KOGO” “BANZUKE” (ranking lists) were compiled. – Quote from A Dictionary of Japanese Art Terms
The beautiful “KOGO” made of Japanese Jujube Wood by Sakugoro.
Jujube Wood is hard, and its well-used item increases color and luster.
Because of this reason, it is used in high-quality crafts such as tea utensils, Buddhist implements and fine furniture, as well as for violin fittings.
Although it is considered a precious high-quality timbers known as “Meiboku” in Japan, it rarely appears in the market.
Additionally, it is difficult to work with the timber due to the risk of scorching during processing. The timber grain has a dense and uniform, and the colors of the heartwood and sapwood are distinct. When used for making tea utensils, it results in a beautiful finish. Since it is crafted from high-quality timber, it becomes a lifelong treasure.

Jujube Wood Kogo is pretty rare and it comes with natural beautiful pattern.
We rarely see Jujube Wood items on the market.
