“KOGO” incense care (container) is a vessel with a cover, for holding incense. Used at “TEMAE” ceremony and placed as an ornament on the floor of “TOKONOMA” in the “CHASHITSU”. Unlike the “KORO” it is not used for burning incense but is exclusively for smelling the fragrance from it. There are many various of “KOGO”. During the Edo period there were so many numerous varieties the “KOGO” “BANZUKE” (ranking lists) were compiled. – Quote from A Dictionary of Japanese Art Terms

It is made by 4th Rakusai Takahashi (born in 1925). He succeeded to 4th Rakusai Takahashi in 1976 after his father 3rd Rakusai Takahashi passed away. He retired in 2010 and 5th Rakusai Takahashi runs their kiln.
It is unused or mint-condition in excellent vintage condition consistent with age with original paulownia box, original cloth and original guide paper.

He is one of very famous Shigaraki artists.
When you ask your tea masters, they are sure to know him.
And also, when they see it, they will know it is his artwork.

Tsujido Kogo is a type of molded incense container.
Molded incense containers refer to ceramic incense containers shaped using molds.
Tsujido means “a Buddhist temple built by the roadside,” and Tsujido Kogo is a square-shaped incense container with a lid that resembles a roof.
In the late Edo period, ranking tables were created for various items, similar to sumo ranking tables. Sumo ranking tables “SUMO BANZUKE” are divided into East and West.
Similarly, molded incense container rankings “KOGO BANZUKE” were divided into East and West.
In the molded incense container rankings, the top position in the East is occupied by Kochi Oogame, and the top position in the West is occupied by Tsujido.
It is a very popular mold, but there are few of them.

We found this “KOGO” in our warehouse belong to my father.
It is made by one of famous Shigaraki’s artist, 4th Takahashi Rakusai.
This is unused with original paulownia box, original cloth and original guide paper.
You are able to enjoy this Kogo for full-fledged tea ceremony.
