Kobayashi Taigen is 20th Abbot of Oubai-in, a sub-temple of Daitokuji.
Born in 1938 in Houten, China.
He was ordained at the age of 6.
In 1961 Graduated from Hanazono University.
Practiced at Shokoku temple meditation hall and studied under Daitsu Rekido
In 1975, he became the abbot of Oubai-in at a sub-temple of Daitokuji in Kyoto.
Known for his exceptional calligraphy skills.
I once had the opportunity to meet Kobayashi Taigen Roshi at Oubai-in, a sub-temple of Daitokuji.
Although he was already quite old, he had a dignified appearance and an aura of noble.
I was surprised that he was a very modest, humble, and he had a gentle smile.
Because I had a very scary image of the high priest in my mind.
And I felt that his wonderful calligraphy came from his way of living.
Oubai-in is a sub-temple of Daitokuji, one of the major Zen temples in Kyoto.
Founded in 1562 by Oda Nobunaga to honor his father, Oda Nobuhide.
Oda Nobunaga, Mori Motonari, Mori Kakamoto, Kobayakawa Takakage, Gamo Ujisato, these tombs in the temple. They are associate with significant Sengoku Warlord in Japan.

Nishiyama Sougen was a bamboo craftsman who was appointed to create tea utensils by the famous sub-temples of Daitokuji, including Fujii Kaido, Fukumoto Sekio and Kogayashi Taigen.
He preferred to use bamboo from Sagano, Kyoto.
