The lacquer Natsume tea caddy is made by Wajima lacquer artist, Okamoto Yosai.
Born in Kyoto in 1932, Okamoto Yosai is a lacquerware artist. Although lacquerware is famous in Kyoto, he is active as a Wajima lacquerware artist. His specialty in maki-e includes designs of flowers, cranes, and traditional Japanese patterns. His workshop is located in Ishikawa Prefecture, where he primarily produces tea utensils such as tea caddies, incense containers, and tea bowls, as well as tableware like bowls. Despite this, he leads an unusual lifestyle as a lacquerware artist, with his residence located in Kyoto.
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age with original paulownia box. (Unused)
We do not see any sign of using.
It is traditional art and craft. Please do not look for perfect finishing like machine made.
You are able to use this Tea Caddy for Tea Ceremonies.
