A Fukuro Obi is generally less formal than a Maru Obi and is constructed from two layers of fabric. The visible front is typically woven in silk brocade, often with metallic threads, while the reverse is usually plain silk.
A standard patterned Fukuro Obi is often called Rokutsu.
With Rokutsu, approximately 60% of the front is patterned brocade, while the remaining portion is plain silk similar to the reverse.
Fully patterned styles include Maru Obi, which is patterned on both sides, and Zentsu Fukuro Obi, which is patterned across the full front surface.
This Fukuro Obi was worn for only a few hours on a formal occasion. The silk threads were dyed with plant-based dyes. It remains suitable for wear and may also be used as a bed runner, table runner, or wall-hanging textile.
