Kakejiku, Vintage Wall Hanging Scroll, Colored Painting, Bodhisattva, Kannon on Zuiun Cloud, Unjyo Kannon, Goddess of Mercy Kannon, Kannon Bosatsu, Bodhisattva,
The painting bears the artist’s signature and seal and comes with its original guarantee paper, its original paper box, and its Tomobako (original signed paulownia box).
We purchased it as an offering for a Buddhist anniversary ceremony and hung it only once during the ceremony.
A priest from Senryuji (No. 13 of the inner sanctuary associated with No. 65 Sankakuji on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage) chanted prayers over the scroll.
The scroll depicts Unjyo Kannon (Kannon on a Zuiun cloud). Kannon is traditionally described as appearing in 33 forms to aid sentient beings.
