The Chashaku Tea Scoop was named “Seijaku” by Toda Jitsuzan (1941-).
The Venerable Jitsuzan Toda is the Abbot of Daijiin, a sub-temple of Daitokuji in Kyoto.
He was born in 1941 in Fukuoka Prefecture. After completing his studies in the Department of Zen Buddhism at Komazawa University, he undertook rigorous monastic training at the Daitokuji Monastery (Kyoto), Sōfuku Monastery (Fukuoka), and Tenryū Monastery (Kyoto).
In 1983, he was appointed Abbot of Daijiin and formally received the transmission of his predecessor’s position. In 2004, he assumed the role of Chief Administrator of Religious Affairs (Shūmu Sōchō) of the Daitokuji sect.
The Chief Administrator serves as the principal overseer of the sect’s administrative and religious affairs, acting under the authority of the Head Abbot of Daitokuji.

Unno Soutai Born in Kyoto in 1947 In 1964, he met bamboo craftsman Kouno Soushun. Graduated from Fushimi Industrial High School’s Craft Department in 1966 and began studying bamboo craft. In 1970, he was given the name Soutai by his teacher. In 1982, he was requested by the head of the flower arrangement school and studied under Sugihara Kazefu. In 1986, he was named Kazefu as a successor.
Unno Soushin is also famous as a woodcarver for Daitokuji and has many works made from old materials received from Daitokuji. He has also worked with old materials from Daitokuji, Soukokuji, Todaiji, and Myokian.
Daiji-in, a sub-temple of Daitokuji.
It is a sub-temple of the Rinzai sect located in Daitokuji-cho, Murasakino, Kyoto.
Located in the southwest direction of the main temple, it was founded during the Tenbun era (1532-1555) by Anyo-in, the mother of Oda Nobunaga, Kensyo-in, the mother of Otomo
Sorin (Yoshishige), Morikami Suonokami and Yamaguchi Sama. It was founded by Tenshuku Sogen, the 129th generation of Daitokuji. The monument to Murasaki Shikibu within the temple grounds was erected in 1798.
The meaning of Seijaku（清寂）literally means “Serene Stillness” or “Quiet Purity”.
It is one of the four guiding principles of the Way of Tea, expressed in the phrase Wa–Kei–Sei–Jaku (和敬清寂) , which Sen no Rikyū established as the spiritual foundation of tea.
**和 (Wa – Harmony)**
To recognize and accept one another’s individuality and differences, opening one’s heart to create harmony.
**敬 (Kei – Respect)**
To respect not only people, but also plants, animals, tools, and all things for their existence.
**清 (Sei – Purity)**
To value not only physical cleanliness but also inner purity of the heart, keeping oneself untainted and clear.
**寂 (Jaku – Tranquility)**
Not only external quietness, but also inner calm, composure, and an undisturbed, peaceful mind.
