Vintage Shino Guinomi, Kato Kanji, Ouji Kiln, Sake Cup, Choko, Ceramics, Shinoyu-glaze, Unused,
Shino ware is a type of Mino ware produced in the southeastern part of Gifu Prefecture. It is commonly decorated with iron beneath a white feldspathic glaze and has long been used for tea utensils and other vessels.
Ouji Kiln has continued its pottery tradition since the middle of the Edo period. The kiln works with clay from the Seto area and its own glaze formulations, producing wares including Shino, Oribe, and Kaiyu.
This sake cup was made by Kato Kanji (born 1927), the 12th generation of Ouji Kiln. He received awards, including a top award at the Japan Artist Group (JAG) Exhibition. Kato Soya is the current head of the kiln.
The cup has a restrained Shino appearance with a simple, substantial form.
It comes with its Tomobako (original signed paulownia box), Tomonuno (original artist-stamped cloth), and an artist-provided leaflet.
We acquired it from a friend and found no signs of use.
