Koutouin is a sub-temple of Daitokuji (Murasakino). It was founded by Hosokawa Tadaoki, who was counted as one of the seven wise men of Rikyu and was a master of tea. The grave tower of Hosokawa Tadaoki is a stone lantern handed down from Sen no Rikyu. The southern garden of the Hojo (Abbot’s Quarters) is beautiful with autumn leaves, and the autumn leaves are especially worth seeing.

The meaning of Wakagoma(若駒) is a word also used as a poetic name. It is not a Zen phrase, but in haiku and similar traditions, it is known as a seasonal word for late spring.
It refers to the lively image of a young horse or foal running energetically through the spring fields, full of vitality.
Tea gatherings are held throughout the year, but some are especially suited to the atmosphere of spring.
A late-spring tea setting is characterized by a rich sense of seasonal feeling: while cherishing the passing of spring, it also incorporates hints of early summer, such as fresh greenery and fragrant breezes.
