The Chashaku Tea Scoop was named “Yusuzumi” by Hashimoto Jyousho.
Hashimoto Jyousho graduated from Hanazono University in 1962 and trained in Rinzai Zen at Daitokuji Senmon Dojo. He studied under Oda Sesso Roshi (1901–1966) and received the names “Jyousho” and “Kendo” from Fujii Seido Roshi, former chief abbot of Daitokuji Sangen-in. In 1965, he became a priest of Yagyu Houtokuzenji, and in 1973 he became its chief priest, succeeding Hashimoto Teiho.
“Yusuzumi” evokes enjoying the cool evening air in summer.
The initial shaping of the bamboo was done by Okuda Soshun, a bamboo craftsman known for working on tea scoops for Zen monks and tea practitioners.
The Chashaku has a natural bamboo color and a pronounced node. It comes with its original tube, Tomobako (original signed paulownia box), and original paper box with title.
