Vintage Chashaku Tea Scoop, Daitokuji, Yagyu Houtoku Temple, Hashimoto Jyousho, Okuda Soushun, Chashaku Name: Yusuzumi, Matcha Bamboo Scoop,

The Chashaku Tea Scoop was named “Kangetsu (Kanduki)” by Hashimoto Jyousho.

The direct meaning of “Yuusuzumi” is to leisurely enjoy the coolness outdoors during the summer evening when the daytime heat has subsided.
As a Zen phrase, it originates from a verse left by Hakuin Zenji, known as the “Reviver of the Rinzai School”.
The verse is “Monomotanu Tamotowakarushi Yusuzumi” -“With nothing to carry, the sleeves are light, enjoying the evening cool.”

When you have a lot of things in the sleeves of your kimono, it becomes heavy and your hands are not free, but when the contents are empty, it becomes light and you feel very free.
It means to completely dispel the delusions and attachments of the ordinary world, as well as the feeling of having attained enlightenment, and to reach a state of complete emptiness and freedom.
