Koutou-in Temple
Koutou-in is a sub-temple of Daitokuji (Murasakino). It was founded by Hosokawa Tadaoki, who was counted as one of the seven wise men of Rikyu and was a master of tea. It has become the family temple of the Hosokawa clan. The academy is said to have been relocated from the residence of Sen no Rikyu. The grave tower of Hosokawa Tadaoki is a stone lantern handed down from Sen no Rikyu. The southern garden of the Hojo (Abbot’s Quarters) is beautiful with autumn leaves, and the autumn leaves are especially worth seeing.
“Wakagoma” means “young horse” or “foal” and evokes the vitality of spring.
It comes with its original tube, Tomobako (original signed paulownia box) with title and original paper box.
It belonged to our father.
Koutou-in was his favorite temple.
According to him, the chashaku was made by Unno Soutai using bamboo from Koutou-in.
