Vintage Bizen Tokkuri Bottle & Choko Cups, Japanese Sake Bottle & Cups, Tokkuri, Choko, 2nd Shibaoka Kozan, Shibaokatousendo, Noborigama, Set of 3pcs, Unused,
Bizen ware is one of Japan’s traditional pottery traditions and originates in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture.
This sake set was made by 2nd Shibaoka Kozan (1912-1998). He was born in Okayama as the eldest son of 1st Shibaoka Kozan, and his given name was Tsuyoshi. His father established the kiln Shibaokatousendo in 1912. He began assisting at the family kiln in 1936 and producing his own pottery from 1945. He succeeded as 2nd Shibaoka Kozan in 1945 after the death of his father. In 1983, he was designated a Traditional Craftsman by METI.
His eldest son, Masashi, later succeeded as 3rd Shibaoka Kozan and became head of the kiln. 3rd Shibaoka Kozan was also designated a Traditional Craftsman by METI in 2008.
This sake set came from a friend in Okayama. It comes with its Tomobako (original signed paulownia box), Tomonuno (original artist-stamped cloths; one also bears the artist’s handwritten signature), and artist-provided leaflets.
